After leaving Brisbane, me and Will flew to Melbourne. We rented a car in Melbourne to go on a short trip to Great Ocean Road on our 2 days off.
メルボルンから車で２時間ほどいくと、Great Otway National Parkという広大な国立公園が広がっています。Great Ocean Roadという名の通り、壮大な海岸沿いの風景がどこまでも続くドライブウェイ。この辺りはサーフィンの聖地でもあるそう。
There is a huge National park called Great Otway National Park, about 2 hours drive from the city of Melbourne. As the name suggest, it is a beautiful drive way along the spectacular coast. This area is also very popular among surfers.
海も波も砂浜もすべてが大きくて、自分が豆粒になった気分。
The ocean, waves, beaches, everything was so huge. I felt like I am a tiny pea.
ビーチ沿いは高い丘が連なっていて、羊や牛が放牧されています。野生のカンガルーにも会えました。細い山道をドライブしていくと、森には、天然のゼラニウムがやユーカリが自生していてものすごくいい匂いがします。この空気真空パックして持って帰りたかった！春だからなのか、ここでは花や草木がとても強い香りを発していました。やはり土が違うのかしら。
On large hills on the other side of the beach, we saw a lot of sheep and cows. We even saw wild kangaroos. As we drove up on the narrow mountain road, the air smelled so good with wild geraniums and eucalyptus. I really wanted to vacuum-pack the air to bring it back home! It's spring now and trees, grasses and flowers were all smelling so strong. I thought the soil might be more fertile there.
立ち寄ったLorneという町。のどかで、お洒落でかわいい所でした。
We droped in a small town called Lorne, it was very relaxed and cute place.
野生のコアラに会う事ができました！ユーカリの木の上で寝ています。この子はお尻をずっと掻いていました。
We saw a wild koala bear! He was scratching his butt on the eucalyptus tree.
小旅行を終え、残り２本のショウの為にメルボルンへ戻った私達を、地元のアーティストのZaccさん、Adamさんが迎えてくれました。メルボルンでは２日間、Adamのお家に泊めてもらったのです。Adamは The Boy Who Spoke Cloudsというユニットで活動するミュージシャンであり、レコーディング・エンジニアでもあります。また、海外からたくさんのミュージシャンを招いてお家に泊めてあげているみたいです。彼の自宅スタジオには様々な珍しい民族楽器やとてもきれいな音を出す古いピアノなど色々あって、みんなでセッションしようという話もありましたが時間がなく断念。また、Adamのお家にはアデレードから来たカントリー・シンガーのEuniceさんが居候していて仲良くなりました。Adamが大ファンだとのことで、なぜかみんなで坂本龍一を聴いたりして、まったりと過ごす。
When we came back to Melbourne from the short trip, local artists Zacc and Adam welcomed us. We stayed with Adam for our last 2 days in Melbourne. Adam is doing music under the name of The Boy Who Spoke Clouds. He is a recording engineer too. It seemed he invites many artists from abroad to his house. His studio was awesome! There were so many unique instruments. His old piano was sounding so beautiful. I wish we could have played music together there. We met a country singer Eunice in Adam's house too. We had a relaxing time before we left for the show. Adam played Ryuichi Sakamoto's music for us.
メルボルン一日目は、疲れていたのか写真がほとんどありません。。夜はZacに連れて行ってもらって、Workers ClubというところでMikoのライブをしました。Seth Ressさんという人がPAをしてくれました。彼は12Kレーベルからリリースしているアーティストでもあります。実は私はお客さんが来てくれるか本当にドキドキしていました。でもけっこう会場が埋まっていたのでホッ。みんな温かくて、アットホームな雰囲気でライブさせてもらえたので、緊張もせず、なかなか良いライブができたのではないかと思う。こちらでライブのレポートを載っけてくれていましたのでご覧あれ。

I forgot to take photos on the first day in Melbourne...Zacc drove us to the venue called Workers Club. Seth Rees did PA for us. Seth is an artist who has a release from 12K label. I was glad many people came to our show. I'd been so worried if there was no audience.I think it was pretty good show. The atmosphere was very relaxing and warm. 最後の一日は、Celerのソロ・ショーです。私もちょいっと参加させてもらえることになりました。ライブの時間までメルボルン市内を観光。朝から電車に乗って中心部へ。メルボルンにはイギリス風の古い建造物がたくさん残っていて、教会など、なじみの無い私にとってはどれも目を奪われる美しいものでした。Adamおすすめの、NGV美術館を見学。クリムトやエゴン・シーレなど期待以上に見応えがあって、大満喫。美術館の表で、胡弓を弾いているおじいさんがいて、良かったのでCDを購入。
We had our last show next day. It was Celer's solo show but Will was nice to have me join. In the morning, we took train to go to central area to look around the city of Melbourne. At Adam's recommendation, we went to NGV museum. We saw some great paintings by Egon Schie, Klimt and so on. A Chinese old man was playing fiddle (or erhu?) in front of the museum. It was sounding nice, so we bought one of his CDs.
メルボルンには多国籍のレストランが沢山あります。日本食がとても人気でした。ジャパニーズ・レストランのおかしなネーミングを見つけるのは一つの楽しみですね。
There were tons of nice restaurants in Melbourne. Japanese food are so popular. It was fun to find Japanese restaurants with funny names.

この日のベニューはArt beatというライブスペース。観光客でいっぱいの町の中心からちょっと離れた、閑静な場所にありました。
ライブまでブラブラしていたら珍しいオープンリールの専門店を発見！目の色が変わり、店のおじさんと熱心に話こむWill。
The venue called Art beat was in a quiet area, away from the busy streets crowded with tourist. When we were walking around the neighborhood, we found a reel-to-reel specialty shop. It was a cool shop selling various kinds of reel-to-reels. Will looked so excited. He really wants to get one.
Adamのバンド。楽器がいっぱい。リチュアルでサイケデリックで熱いライブでした。
Adam played in a band with his friend. It was a cool folky and psychedelic music. They were playing so many instruments!
前日のWorkers ClubのライブでPAもしてくれたSethのバンド。コンピューターを使わず、ギターとペダルのみでプロセッシングして繊細な音を作っていきます。映像も面白かった。彼らは日本に来たらすごく受けると思う。
The next band was Seth's band. It was a beautiful guitar-processed sound. It was amazing they were not using any computers. Their video was beautiful too.
Celerはこの日のラスト。前日に、曲をちょっと聴かせてもらって、私はごく控えめに声やノイズやフィールドレコーディングを入れさせてもらうことにした。私はせっかちで色々やりたくなってしまうので、Celerの音楽の中に流れてる時間に合わせてやるのがすごく勉強になる。「ゆっくり、いつもの10倍、」と言い聞かせてやった。どうだったんだろうか。お客さんはけっこう気に入ってくれたようだ。
Celer played the last. I listened the music the day before and decided to add just a little bit vocal and noise and field recordings. I tend to be impatient and go fast when I play shows. Playing with Celer is a good practice and great experience for me. I told myself, 'Go slow, 10 times slower than usual'. It seemed audience liked our performance.
メルボルンで出会った人たちもまた、みんな温かかくてチャーミングな人たちでした。最初はちょっと、シャイな感じの、都会特有の距離感があるかな思ったけど、二日目にはすっかり打ち解けて、フレンドリーに接してくれた。みんなミュージシャンなので、自分の音楽やパフォーマンスを見てもらうのが一番の自己紹介になるし、そこで距離もぐっと縮まる。メルボルンでもまた、出会った人々とCDを交換してまたいつかオーストラリアか日本で再会することを約束した。音楽をやっていなかったらきっと出会えなかった人々、できなかった濃密な体験と思い出の数々。私が細々とやっている小さな活動のために、たくさんの人が力を貸してくれた。わらしべ長者のように、予想を上回るごほうびが先々に待っていた。それはすべてお金では決して買えないものだ。素晴らしいサポートをしてくれたZacc、Adam、みんなありがとう。いつかみんなに、どんな形であれ恩返しができますように。オーストラリア日記、これにて終わりです。
People I met in Melbourne were all so nice and charming too. I felt there was a little distance between us first, but I found out they are very friendly eventually. Because we are all musicians, seeing and knowing each other's music is the best way to know each other better and become close friends. We traded our CDs and promised to meet again in Australia or Japan. I wouldn't have met them if I was not doing music. Many people gave me a lot of supports for my tiny music project. Thank you Zacc, Adam, everybody I met in Australia. I want to repay the kindnesses to everyone someday.
